Session 2A

Reigniting Your Spark: Personal Growth vs. Career Growth

Jessica Veitch and Michal Shaw

Wednesday, September 21
11:30 – 12:30 PM (MT)

About the Session

We love our work, and are honored to do it. Really! How many people can say that they get paid to be grateful and to celebrate generosity? But sometimes, as experienced donor relations practitioners, we've gone as far as the institution allows, or learned as much as the institution can teach us. Sometimes, the spark is just gone. So, what comes next? What will inspire you? Is it the focus on career growth, or personal growth? Is it learning a new dialect of a language we know so well? Is it the discovery of a new sector and type of philanthropy? Is it figuring out how to apply your skills and talents to a broader range of organizations? In this session, Michal Shaw and Jessica Veitch will share what inspired them to make substantial career shifts, while still doing the work they love. They will speak about how they have found new passion for that work in their new roles and sectors, and what they have learned throughout the process; about the work and about themselves.
